You look at the schedule at DailyBarre and you see HIIT with Jenny…are you wondering, what is HIIT? I wonder if they offer a “boot camp” of some sort…well, YES! we do, it just all depends on the day! 😉

So what’s the difference in Boot Camp and HIIT anyway?

Boot Camp is a type of group fitness designed to strengthen one’s muscles, cardiovascular health, mind and confidence. In a boot camp class one can expect to do callisthenic type exercises such as push-ups, lunges, squats, crunches, burpees, but also cardio exercises likes drills and shuttle runs. HIIT is interval training that is done in bursts of high intensity work for certain periods of time followed by shorter recovery times. These workouts normally last only 30 minutes or less because they are to be done at a pace that is highly challenging for the participant. These type of workouts reap the benefits of higher cardiac function and greatly improve post workout metabolism calorie burn.

What is it that Jenny Rick’s teaches? Technically, what she teaches is actually boot camp. She does, however, include HIIT work in boot camp classes. Her classes are never the same because she use a variety of workout structures. Some days you may be doing HIIT work, such as a Tabata, but some days you may be doing other workouts like: As many rounds as possible (AMRAP), I GO YOU GO partner work, team work, drills, circuits, or rep ladders. The workouts Jenny creates use equipment like boxes, battle ropes, medicine balls, kettle bells, dumbbells, jump ropes, agility ladders, sand bags, BOSU balls, stability balls, or, you may use the absolute best equipment of all, your own bodies! Most of her workouts are 30 minutes followed by a 10-15 minute shorter finisher workout or group game (and who does’t love games? You almost forget you are working out!). Sometimes the workout might be 45 minutes with no finisher.

Jenny always begin the workouts with a prayer, an explanation of the day’s workout, a pep talk and a warm up. Classes are always finished with a proper cool down and a big congratulations and smile from Jenny because she is proud of the work her participants do! The goal of every single class Jenny teaches is to have everyone work at a pace that is challenging for them at whatever fitness level they are. She gives modifications so that goal can be achieved by each individual. No matter what workout structure she uses, every class provides a total body workout and major calories are burned! #winning
