Let’s talk about one of my favorite ways to get #alltheprotein…..SMOOTHIE BOWLS!

The options are endless when it comes to this precious dish, but lets talk basics.

Start with your base…the protein. I have been using the Isagenix health system for almost 6 years now and I don’t know what I would do without it. So, for me, my base is a thick Isagenix Shake (2 scoops of shake is 24-36 grams of protein, depending on what I have going on – blend with 3-4 oz of water and a lot of ice). We have a large variety of flavors that have come out over the course of the years I have been with them and you need to find what you like the best. When I make my “loaded” smoothie bowls, I like to stick to the basics, like Chocolate or Strawberry. The vanilla is a nice option when you want to get creative with your base. You can add lemon essential oil to the shake, have a lemon flavored base and then add #allthefruit to the top like mango, pineapple, raspberries, granola, slivered almonds and some chia seeds!

I am getting ahead of myself.

So, once you have your base figured out, lets start adding all the toppings! Here is just a small list of items you can include…

  • Fruit
    • Bananas
    • Strawberries
    • Raspberries
    • Blueberries
    • Blackberries
    • Pineapples
    • Mangos
    • Kiwi
  • Shelf Stable Products:
    • Granola
    • Oats
    • Chia Seeds
    • Raisins
    • Slivered/Chopped Almonds
    • Shaved Coconut
  • That something extra to put it over the top:
    • Honey
    • Dollop of Peanut Butter
    • Healthy Chocolate Chips
    • Ground Cinnamon

Get creative with your smoothie bowl. Since it is October 1st, maybe you make a pumpkin base (can add puree pumpkin or pumpkin spice to your vanilla shake – if you don’t have a pumpkin flavored protein shake) and top with roasted pumpkin seeds and whatever else you pumpkin fanatics can think of.

And don’t worry what your smoothie bowl looks like, it all gets mixed up eventually. But sometimes, it is fun to play around and see how pretty you can make your smoothie bowl.

PRO-TIP: I like to blend frozen fruit in with my base to give that base a fun color…and it is a good way to get your kids to eat that fruit they won’t eat whole, but will eat when blended in and they don’t know what it is! 😉

Tell me, did you try a smoothie bowl? What did you think and what was your flavor of choice?

Happy eating and I can’t wait to see you at the barre!
