Misconception #1: I am not a dancer! I have no rhythm and I can NOT do barre!
I am not an dancer either!! HAHA This white girl can NOT dance! Most people who love the barre workout are NOT dancers. And, while there is always music playing, generally, you are concentrating so much on the movements and workout that you don’t even realize what song is playing!
Misconception #2: I am not flexible at all! Barre probably isn’t the best workout for me.
That is why you need barre in your life! Barre helps improve flexibility, balance and coordination!
Misconception #3: Barre workouts are for women only
“Insert big eye roll emoji” WRONG. FALSE. TRY AGAIN! Barre is a full body workout and I promise, you will feel it when you leave the studio. Just give it a try!
Misconception #4: I don’t want to bulk up.
Me either!!! Barre workouts aren’t going to make you bulky! It is a low impact, high intensity total body workout that builds strength, flexibility and endurance. Barre helps tone your muscles. If you haven’t been working out and your muscles are sagging, you will see them come to life and get some muscle definition, and you may fit your pants a little differently, but you are not going to bulk up.
Misconception #5: I want to sweat and get a great workout in. I can’t imagine that happening at barre.
Boy, do we sweat! And, like I said, I promise you will feel it when you leave the studio. Not all barre classes/instructors are created equal, you need to find the class and instructor that is right for you! What a barre class is at one studio will be totally different at the next studio you try. DailyBarre isn’t a franchise or chain, so our instructors can teach whatever style of class they desire!
Misconception #6: I have NEVER worked out, or I haven’t worked out in YEARS!
You gotta start somewhere! The instructors at DailyBarre are great at giving you modifications you can do and still get a great workout. Instead of doing standard push-ups, you can move the push-ups to the barre, to help take some of the weight off your shoulders and work on your form. Any exercise done on the floor in table top position can generally be done at the barre. And, we have props, like a ball and block that can help with other modifications.
Hopefully these misconceptions helped cleared up any confusion you had about barre and you are ready to give us a try.
Check out our schedule here!
I can’t wait to see you at the barre,
Dawn
