So, you booked your first barre class…now what? Here are a few tips that will help you prepare for your first Barre class.

Come Early!
Rolling in on 2 wheels never starts the day off right, so try to arrive at the studio 10 minutes early so you can get your mat, weights and any other fun “toys” we might need, get a quick stretch in and get your mind ready for the next 50-60 minutes.

Wear the right clothes! Barre is just like any other workout class. You will want to wear something comfortable that you can easily move around in, usually yoga pants, a loose-fitting t-shirt or tank top and hair pulled back. You can even pick up a DailyBarre tank in our online store and we will bring it to one of your next classes!

Stay Hydrated!
Don’t forget your water!

Be Patient!
Barre is just like anything else new and different. It is going to take time to get used to the movements, the language, and the burn!  Do yourself a favor and give yourself time and GRACE. Nobody is good at something the very first time they do it. We are all still learning and we will grow and learn together.

Listen to your body!
If you need to take a break, then please do so. Barre isn’t a cakewalk and sometimes we are pushing our muscles to the extreme shake! You want to push past your mind telling you to quit but don’t push to the point of hurting yourself. Can you hold that plank for 5 more seconds? Probably. Do you need to change to smaller weights or set the weights down and use no weights at all? Maybe! This is your class, you are here for a reason, think about that reason when you are in class, push yourself to the limits but be safe.

Sticky Socks!
Have you tried these yet? WOW! What a difference! Sticky socks have little rubber dots on the bottom of the socks to help grip your stance when we are up on one leg and to help you hold that plank a little easier. Not to mention, sticky socks are a great barrier between your skin and that mat! If you don’t have sticky socks, head over to our online store to pick up a pair for yourself!

Book another class!
One and done is not what is going to happen here! Give it another try! The best barre class is always the next one. Commit to coming 3 days a week and you will be amazed at the difference you see and most importantly FEEL! You are going to love that work out high that you have after class and you will fall in love with the stretching we do all throughout class. Book here.

Bring a Friend!
Working out is always so much more fun when you bring friends with you! Nothing is more fun than looking over at your friend and exchanging that look with each other when the instructor says “only 8 more to go”. Plus, accountability partners is what makes us stay committed. We will always cancel on ourselves, but it is so much harder to cancel when you are supposed to meet someone at the studio!

I can’t wait to see you at your next (or first) barre class. Remember to talk with the instructor if you have any questions, bring water and have fun and enjoy the burn!

See you at the barre,
Dawn
